Bonjour la classe!

For French we are going to find out about a very famous event that takes place tomorrow in France.  Le 14 juillet-Fête Nationale, July 14^th – National Holiday in France is a bank holiday and normally a day of national celebration with parades, fly pasts, parties and lots of gatherings for special meals and fireworks.  This year it will be very different as the crowds are not allowed to gather and watch all the events.  But it will be broadcast on the television.  So there are 3 video clips, and a powerpoint. The video clips are in the Video Resource Centre on the school website. Go to FRENCH: le 14 juillet - la Fete Nationale en France: watch the 2016 Parade du 14 juillet, singing and signing La Marseillaise, the French national anthem; 2019 Fireworks, Eiffel Tower, Paris and why not try to “Draw the Eiffel Tower”, add a few fireworks.

Ça va? How are you?

I hope you enjoyed your first taster of Le Tour de France learning.  Remember this world famous cycle race should have started last Saturday in Nice but because of the Coronavirus pandemic it has been postponed until samedi le 29 août.  The focus of this learning is Le Tour de France and cognate and near cognate learning.  You have a powerpoint to remind you about the Tour, Tour video clips in the Video Resource Centre: FRENCH: Le Tour de France, Kim’s Game and a wordsearch activity.

I hope you are keeping your French up.  You have been learning about “la famille”: you have made your own “arbre généalogique”, you have written a short description in French to describe your family members and have learnt a “forever” question, how to express possession using “de” and vocabulary for “la famille, finishing with cognate and near cognate learning to help you prepare a description about a member of your family.

I hope you are keeping your French up.  Enjoy this new learning about “la famille”.  So far in your learning you have made your own “arbre généalogique”, you have written a short description in French to describe your family members and have learnt a “forever” question, how to express possession using “de” and vocabulary for “la famille.

This week you will learn about Evelyne et sa famille.  You will find short descriptions of each member of the family.  Use your cognate and near cognate learning to work out the meaning.  Then have a go a writing your own description.

Ça va? How are you?

Your objective last time was to write a short description in French to describe your family members.  Keep refreshing your learning by watching (with permission) the recommended videos.  There are lots of sound clips to help you learn your new vocabulary.  Also it would be helpful to refer back to your your “arbre généalogique”, your own Family Tree,

This time you are learning a lot about sentence construction in French and noticing the differences.  This session continues with sentence building.  In this powerpoint your will learn a “forever” question.  This is a question that will be endlessly useful in French and can be used in many different ways.  Then you will find out about how to express possession (belongs to).  This is an important language difference between French and English and there is a video clip to support this grammar point.  For the written activity you will practise before you construct your own descriptions.   Look out for differences in masculine and feminine.

I hope you are keeping your French up.  We are going learn about La Famille and I hope you enjoyed creating your own Family Tree (arbre généalogique) in French. The first thing you are going to do is to recap the vocabulary that you used in your “arbre généalogique”, with the focus on accurate sounding.  To help you there are video clips and songs to listen to. Next you are going to use your learning to write sentences to describe your family. The powerpoint has lots of pictures and sounds to help you learn the language you need. Don't forget you have a video clip below to help you with the sounding. Enjoy this learning.
