Our last full day was event-packed. We set out to Picton Castle and Gardens which contained many magical moments.
The fairy trail involved the children looking for fairy houses to puzzle out the identities of twelve different species of tree while the herb garden and its range of mint plants intrigued a number of the children. We explored the house and the servants' quarters.
Outside, the maze, boardwalk and playground were firm favourites as were the range of large-scale traditional games from Jenga to chess and even rolling down hillsides. The bamboo grove was great to explore and there were many trees to climb on. Some of the children competed on pull-ups and hanging from trees.
However, the clear favourite was the exhibition of vintage lawnmowers. Summer, Phoebe and Imogen entered as lawnmower sceptics but have become true converts to the mechanical marvels.
Heading back, we spent the rest of the afternoon on the beach including a last paddle and play in the sand. The children returned in time to eat their food (cheeseburgers) and have passed their room inspections.
The children have now settled for the night. We will be getting up early tomorrow for the journey back home after a tiring but very successful trip!
