The 2024 year 6 residential started with an unexpected surprise on the first day. With a motorway issue sadly preventing us from being able to make Big Pit, we made a detour instead to enjoy the experience of St Fagan’s National Museum of Wales. The children particularly enjoyed seeing the World War II sweet shop, the Victorian school house and even the 17th century cock fighting arena. They also had a chance to see the lambs and wander through history as they experienced the changes in interior design from the 1880s to the 1980s. There was even a fire lit to make it a cozy respite from the wonderfully authentic Welsh weather.
“I liked the different houses and how they got nicer over the years,” Sofia observed.
Summer noticed, “The kitchens grew bigger and they had more kitchen supplies and appliances.”
“I liked the shops as you could compare modern and old foods and how the prices of apples and other foods had changed over the years,” Daniel added.
“Schools have changed throughout the years and the schools are much smaller. The punishment where you had to have a bit of stick and hold it behind your back was different,” contributed Pranav.
Sienna M was surprised by how harsh life was for left-handed children.
Artur said, “The 1950s television looked like a one-by-one Lego piece!”
Josh called it “really amazing” to see the changes over the years. Finley had a terrific time and was sad that we ran out of time but the journey to the hostel beckoned!
A coach journey later, we arrived at Broad Haven! The children are excitedly settling into their rooms.

The children have enjoyed a lovely meal and dessert and have settled into their rooms. Looks like the room allocations were a success! The weather is in the early stages of promising to not rain so shortly we will be heading down to the coast so the children can explore the beach before bed!
The children had a fantastic time on the beach blowing away the cobwebs and are all settled ready for an early get-up tomorrow for the boat trip.
Updates to follow
(We have lots of photos of all the children on the beach but the internet is misbehaving so we'll upload them when possible!)
