Our Curriculum

We are very proud of our ambitious curriculum, recently praised by Ofsted. At Parkfield, we have designed a curriculum which fundamentally covers the statutory learning objectives outlined in the Primary National Curriculum. Our curriculum has been designed so that each year group’s learning objectives build upon the previous year group’s knowledge and skills coverage; our main aim being to ensure the building blocks of knowledge and skills are in place to underpin further learning.

We provide a curriculum that is engaging, balanced, brings a sense of enjoyment and fascination and one that is rigorous. While the core skills of reading, writing and maths are essential, we also place great value on providing an engaging programme of study for all curriculum areas.

Ofsted

Parkfield was inspected in February 2020 and we achieved an overall effectiveness of ‘Good’ under this new, more rigorous framework. Please click on the link below to access the report.

Results and School Performance

Apart from last summer, due to COVID-19, we are asked to submit our statutory end of year data to the Local Authority and the Department for Education. This includes Foundation Stage results; Year 1 phonics tests; teacher assessments in Year 2 and teacher assessments and test results for Year 6. We are very proud of our results and the hard work of the whole community to achieve these. In all key areas of learning across the school our outcomes are above the national average.

Wrap Around Care (Swallows) and After School Clubs

We run a very successful wrap around provision to support families with before and after school care. Please click on the link below for more information.

As well as our popular Swallows wrap around care, we offer many things to do after school at Parkfield Primary School. Whether your child is sporty, musical, arty or if they just enjoy trying out new things with friends then we hope there is something that will interest them.

Some of the activities are run by professional coaches and there is a charge for these clubs. Some clubs and activities are run by our teaching staff and when this is the case, there is no charge. These clubs and activities can be booked each half term and where appropriate, as with Swallows, paid for online via our School money payment system.

School Lunches

Our hot school lunches are provided by Cleverchefs and are freshly prepared by our own chef in our kitchen each day. The meals are nutritionally balanced and prepared in accordance with the School Food Plan and comply the Food for Life Bronze Standard.

The menu rotates over a 3 week period and examples of the healthy food available include

  • Lamb Hot Pot - slow cooked lamb and vegetables in an onion gravy topped with crispy potatoes with garden peas and roasted carrots
  • Roast Cauli Steak - with smashed pea hummus with crispy baked potatoes and hispi cabbage, baked parsnips and carrots
  • Jacket potato - choice of baked beans, tuna & sweetcorn, cheese or cheese and beans
  • Old School Chocolate Sponge - served with custard
  • Chocolate and beetroot brownie

The meals are all served with a selection of seasonal salads, low fat dressing and dips. Our chef also makes fresh bread everyday. Fruit yoghurts or fresh fruit are always available as an alternative dessert.

Friends of Parkfield

Our Parent Teacher Association is called 'The Friends of Parkfield School' and is open for anyone to join, whether you have plenty of time to spare or just the odd hour now and again. Our main responsibilities are fundraising but we also have a social function where we aim to bring our school community together to have a bit of fun. The money we raise is intended to enrich the learning of our children by providing the 'extras' not already provided in the school's normal budget. In recent years the Friends have contributed to the Secret Garden, Outdoor Play Area and new kit for our sports teams.

Thank you

We truly believe every child should have the right to reach their full potential in all aspects of the school curriculum and be provided with an education appropriate to the world beyond the classroom.

We should be developing in children a love of learning, a pride in work well done and a desire to expand their knowledge and skills throughout life. We must help children learn to live together in a community and to become responsible, independent people, who are able to think deeply about the world around them and to respect other races, religions, ways of life and points of view. We must also develop in children a positive sense of moral responsibility, giving them the self-confidence and skills to express their opinions.

This can only be achieved if, as a learning community, we work together and put the children at the heart of any decision we make.

Thank you for taking the time to consider Parkfield for your child and we hope to see you all in September.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me or any of my dedicated and hardworking team at any time.

Yours sincerely,

Mr G Jones

Headteacher
