Day 1 - Monday 13th July 2026

The Pembrokeshire adventure is beginning!

We made fantastic time arriving at Big Pit around 11.30.  The groups had time to explore the site and then go down the mine, experiencing the lives of the miners, learning the grim plight of the pit ponies and meeting the canaries - although not the ones down the mine!

We left Big Pit at 2.30 and reached Broad Haven before 5 - plenty of time to settle into rooms before dinner.

In the evening, the children enjoyed a runaround on the beach, a paddle in the sea and met a jellyfish.  The children are now settling down for the evening.

Day 2 - Tuesday 14th July 2026

The children enjoyed a hearty breakfast and one special individual was able to wear The Birthday Hat.

Then, with gorgeous blue skies, this was a lovely day to be in Tenby!  On our boat trip, we saw all sorts of fascinating creatures including many puffins, cormorants and guillemots.  The waves were unusually choppy yet the children managed admirably and one even had the unique chance to help steer the ship!  

After lunching at the beach at Tenby, we returned to Broad Haven.  The tide was out and the children were able to enjoy plenty of fun in the waves while groups also explored the rock pools, played beach sports and explored the shores.

Dinner received rave reviews ("Absolutely brilliant" - the birthday boy).  In the evening, the children enjoyed free time with some watching the World Cup, others playing pool or cricket.

Tomorrow: surfing!

 

Day 3 - Wednesday 15th July 2026

Another gorgeous day in Pembrokeshire and the children split into groups with a range of activities including surfing, coastal walks and exploring the village of Broad Haven.

We had so many great successes surfing whether children were experienced wave riders or it was their first time even putting on a wetsuit.  The waves were quite gentle and there was plenty of time for surfing games as well as surfing.

The walk to the headland allowed the children to sketch and enjoy their picnic lunch in the view of glorious Broad Haven.  The children also enjoyed exploring the ice cream parlour and local shops of Broad Haven.

This evening the children enjoyed their meals - burgers and chips - ready for the big match!

While there were painted faces and flags, cheers and gasps and horror, sadly football is not coming home this year;  the children cheered and commiserated together and now are sleeping ready for a big journey tomorrow.

 

Day 4 - Thursday 16th July 2026

After a hearty breakfast, we made good time on the way back and stopped off at St Fagan's.  We had a brief glimpse of the houses, a chance to stretch our legs and have lunch and a chance to scout for souvenirs on the way out.  We returned with some fun gifts and even more terrific memories to treasure!
