English - World Book Day

Today is World Book Day! A day where we can celebrate our love of books and reading. smiley

To get started, have a go at the 10 Minute Challenge by Amy Sparkes on Authorfy where she asks you to create your own world behind a door. Get your creative juices flowing!

This year, our whole school theme is 'Alice in Wonderland' by Lewis Carroll.

As the book is quite long and would be tricky to read in one day, read through the PowerPoint below instead.

Task:

Choose and draw one of the characters from the story 'Alice in Wonderland' - there are quite a few to choose from!

Using 2A (adjectives) ideas, label the character.

  • What are they wearing?
  • Are they holding anything?
  • Where do they live?
  • What do they like to do?
  • What do they not like to do?
  • What are they like as a character? Are they shy? Curious?
  • Do they have any friends? Who are their friends?

Now, you have drawn and labelled your character, please write a character description.

Remember to use adjectives, adverbs, fronted adverbials, conjunctions and prepositions.

Use the example below to help you. smiley

DT - World Book Day

In 'Alice in Wonderland', Alice sits down to tea with the Mad Hatter and his friends.

We would like you to design and make a Mad Hatter Hat!

Remember, designing is just as important as making so make sure to label your design too.

  • What will your hat be made from?
  • What colours will you use?
  • How will you make it comfortable to wear?

You can use the template below or create your own template. Once you have designed your hat, you can make it using any resources you have at home! We will share our creations on Zoom. smiley
