National Poetry Day 2020
Woodpeckers had a wonderful day exploring and immersing themselves in poetry all day on Thursday 1st October. We started our day by discussing what poetry meant to each of us and then listening to some famous poets online. We especially enjoying listening to Michael Rosen's 'No Breathing in Class' poem. He used lots of expression, made us laugh and we could learn the poem easily and join in.
Next, we looked at the different types of poems such as kennings, acrostic and haiku poems, read a variety of short poems and played game to help us get ready to become poets ourselves.
To finish our day we took inspiration from a poem called 'What is pink?' by Christina Rossetti. Using her poem as a starting point, we created our own poems about colour as the theme for National Poetry Day was vision. We then used our new computing skills to type up our poems.
Here is a selection for you to enjoy.
