BBCiplayerNumberblocks Series 4 Episode 6 Square Club!

Things get totally out of hand at a Square Club meeting - until a certain someone arrives to save the day.

Objective: Learn all about square numbers with the Numberblocks.

Activity: Printing Square Numbers

 

1) You will need a potato, sharp knife, paints and paper.

2) Take one of the potatoes and, using the sharp knife, chop the potato in half (get a grown-up to help with this).

3) Get a grown-up to cut out a square shape from the potato ready for printing. (A square sponge will also work)

4) Create Numberblock 4, 9 and 16, as shown in the video above, by printing 4 squares for 4, 9 squares for 9 and 16 squares for 16 in a square shape.

 

Challenge - Can you create any other Numberblocks that are part of the Square Club? Remember the rule - They have to have the same number of cubes going up as they do across.

Learning Objective: To follow a recipe and make honey biscuits.

Bees work hard to make delicious honey!  Can you work hard with an adult to make these delicious honey biscuits…. don’t forget to tell us how they taste!

Honey Biscuits

Ingredients

To make 30 biscuits you will need:

100g soft butter

100g sugar

1 large tablespoon honey

1 egg yolk

1 level teaspoon cinnamon

180g self-raising flour

Equipment

1 large bowl

1 wooden spoon

1 tablespoon

1 teaspoon

1 greased baking tray

Method

  1. Cream the butter and sugar together in the bowl.
  2. Beat in the honey and the egg yolk.
  3. Add the cinnamon and flour, and mix into soft dough.
  4. Using a teaspoon, take small amounts of dough and roll them gently into balls – you should have enough dough for about 30 balls.
  5. Place all the balls on a greased baking tray.
  6. Cook for 10 minutes at 175°C.
  7. Remove biscuits from the oven and place on a wire rack to cool.
  8. Eat and enjoy!
